One option is Jebao dc pump from Amazon. Cheap and reliable (in my experience, YMMV), have two and been running for 5+ years with no problem.

just got a Varios8 but I think I may still need another one for back up..

Jebao are very hit or miss. I just replaced a return pump that was about a year old because it kept randomly restarting over and over. I replaced it with an eheim because I dont need or want a separate controller for my sump pump. They are bullet proof and quiet.

Just swapped out my eheim that had been running for 8 years with 2 varios 8.
So much quieter, now the gyres are starting to sound annoying ��
