LF scrap mirror in Rochester

Hi folks - I'm using mirror for a tank lighting project. Anyone know where to get some cheap in Rochester?
I'm going to check CL - sometimes that hit or miss.

Not to dissuade you but I asked about using mirrors to reflect light a year or so ago and someone posted that mirrors only reflect something like 15% of the light. That said, I'd try craigslist.

What exactly are you doing? Sounds like it could be interesting

I heard the same thing about mirrors. I don't see how they reflect so little light though. Maybe because it directs the light too much rather than diffusing it like a white painted surface would?

Hmm - food for thought!
I'll have to look into this and talk to the friend who's helping me with this project.
And wah-zoh, thanks for the offer, but I think it may cost less just to buy a cheap mirror in Rochester than to drive to Buffalo. Thanks though!

Okay - I've gone to my personal source for all technical wisdom (my dad) and he didn't know :)
So.... I guess I'll just continue on as planned and let you guys know how it turns out!
The plan is to reflect some LEDs with mirrors inside the hood for my new 7g. Should know soon if it works or not :)

Mirrors make poor reflectors because the light must pass through the glass to hit the reflective paint, then back through the glass. It's like putting two panes of glass in the path of your light.

A smooth white surface is your best bet for reflecting light.
