LF Sea Hare

Just thought I would see if anyone has a sea hare locally that they want to part with or knows of a store that has one around.

This is my last stand in the battle against GHA.

I think I saw one at Jofish the other day. Give them a call. If not I'm sure they can get you one. Be warned thou they are the worlds dumbest animal and will get in all kinds of trouble ie. Getting stuck in the rocks, powerheads etc. ;) so be prepared.

Thanks for the info. I called them and they have some. I dont care how dumb it is as long as it eats GHA. May have to pass him on to a fellow reefer here after he takes care of business (fingers crossed)

They are really good at tearing up the algae. You can actually see a road where they have removed the algae. You sometimes will have to move it to areas you want cleaned but be really gentle handling it.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like you guys have some experience with them. I have been doing alot of research on GHA removal and spent alot of money so far. Replaced CC with new sandbed, upgraded lighting to led, added a phosphate reactor, bought an ro/di unit, even dipped all my 120 lbs of rock in peroxide.

In other words this will be a small investment compared to everything else and it is natural i guess. My only concern is after it has done its job. Maybe the LFS will take it back for store credit or I can pass him on to someone here. Hopefully he doesnt die somewhere deep in the rockwork.

One question, I have an open top so does anyone know if these guys like to adventure out of water? My snails are known to crawl out of the tank at night and cruise the living room.

Shifty what are your parameters at?Has your tank stabilized after all of the disruptions,ie, dipping the rock, changing sandbed etc. If you can post the info about your tank we can probably be more helpful. Are you doing weekly waterchanges? As I'm sure you know HA is usually a result of nutrient issues. A picture would also help. Grant
The sea hare will cruise all over the place and I have no doubt it will crawl out if it gets the chance. LoL. Probably find it cruising the kitchen counters ;)

I will try to make this short. Actually, I almost started this thread as a FS teardown. Tank is 100g with built-in wet dry filter set up 8 years ago with bio balls as FO and fake corals (old skool).

About 2 years ago decided to go FOWLR. Replaced fake coral with LR and bio balls with rubble. Got a skimmer. Nitrates were in the 60-80 range for that time. Then about 6 months ago all hell broke loose. GHA like crazy.

I decided it was all out war pimp you tank time so I got the reactor, replaced sand bed (in halves about 2 weeks apart) replaced t-5 fixture and old bulbs with exotic led fixture, ro/di unit, and 80g CUC from reef cleaners. Then I read the thread about peroxide dipping. That worked for about 2 weeks and now it is slowly growing back. I have done water changes of about 30% every 2 weeks for the past 2 months.

The only params i measure are as follows:
Sa=1.026
Nitrates=10
Pho4=0.2
Temp=78

Tried the lights out thing on numerous occasions and does not work for me. I have noticed the cyano is gone now and the GHA grows alot slower. That being said I am trying to be patient but proactive at the same time.

Oh and with my luck that sea hare will not only cruise the kitchen countertops but raid the fridge! I will look into a top for the tank. Seems like the more serious I get in this hobby the harder it gets.

Lol, Too funny. Btw after a few years of higher nitrates and phos the rock is going to take a while to leach out the build up. Are you still running the old sump? Have you bought a skimmer yet?

Shifty, did you find one yet?

There is a fellow on SFBAAPS that has 3 'Dolabrifera dolabrifera' for sale. Is that what you are looking for?

Unfortunately it's pick up only and I believe he is in the south bay.

If you are interested, PM me and we can figure out a way for you to contact him directly.

Woodnaquanut, thanks for the offer...very cool of you. I am just gonna run down to petaluma and pick one up this afternoon. I will report back with results.
