LF:Tank Stand 29 gallon

Searching for a 29 gallon stand that can fit a 10 gallon sump underneath. Hoping to find a cheap one for my first tank, so I can budget the rest for LED Lights & overflow. :eek1:

These seem pretty hard to find on Craigslist compared to other sizes. The only one I have found is the one at Aquatouch but its $100 and I am not fully in love with the look or condition for that price.

If you've been to your LFS and seen one on sale it would be nice if you can state where and if you remember how much. I've only been to Aquatouch and Discount Aquarium. Apparently they only place LFS and Craigslist local reefers as far away from Peoria as possible

Forgot to mention dimensions. 30L x 12W. I believe most 20gallons have same footprint.

Here is one I'm looking at. I have a 29 drilled I'm going to use and put a tank for a sump and an ATO under it for a sea horse tank.

What size sump are you using? I have a 10gallon that is 12 1/2" high. Leaving no room.

Ah, I actually didn't see that measurement. That one won't work as I want to use a 10 gallon as well. They do have others though that are open with a shelf on the bottom that would work and could be skinned to hide it.

Actually at this point I'm thinking of just making one myself. I feel comfortable with a tank that small putting one together with some 2x's and skinning it.

I wish I was comfortable to build my own.

If you don't build your own, not many options that include sump room surprisingly.

There really aren't many options...well...there ARE...but they cost too much.

I'm horrible at building things, not a handy man at all. However, for a tank that small I feel I have enough skill. It's going to be something quite basic like framing a room and then putting some cover over it and paint. I can do that. 2x4's are very strong and even more so when cut short like these will be. We're talking about 232 pounds for the top tank and half that for the bottom.

My main concern, and this is where my poor skills come in, is making sure the thing is level. THAT is something I never seem to get right.

Chad, you lose a lot of real estate inside a stand when you build it out of lumber. even with small builds, I still use 3/4" birch. all of my stand 4' and shorter are all plywood, no lumber. 2x4s can twist and warp when they get wet and if you're going to skin it, why not just use plywood only? custom stands do cost more but the pay off is worth it.

Another tip, if the stand isn't level then use wood shims under the stand and not the tank.

It's easier for me to work with lumber to be honest, that's the only reason. I've done framing and drywalling on home projects quite a lot and am comfortable with that. I'm not sure I could build what I need to out of plywood and I don't have the tools to cut it either.

As long as the stand can fit a 10 gallon inside of it I'm okay though.

Thanks for the link Clowns, but I have changed my mind and will be looking for a 40B or 40L.
