Copper, hypo or tank transfer, along with a fallow period are the only ways to cure crypto. Anything else will not cure all stages of crypto.

Most people here base their theory/outcome from their experience and not something they read online. It worked for them and they want to share it. Kind of ignorant of someone calling out what everyone's doing is wrong because of the "science theory".

I don't know much about the science behind curing crypto/ick, but I do believe in what works for me to keep fish alive (in multiple occasions).

Reading and researching online about crypto/ick doesn't make anyone an expert, including yourself. We are not here to claim what's correct or wrong, but it sounds like you are...

Thanks! It started with a tang...and spread to others. Now I have only 2 fish left: pipefish (from Aquarius) and yellow tang (from AZKASS). I can easily catch the pipefish, but catching the yellow tang is near impossible.

Similar to Kirsten, I share the belief that ich are like herpes. Once a fish has it, it has it for life. When its stressed due to tankmates or water condition, the herpes/ich becomes visible. We can take the fish out of the tank, but we can't take the ich out of the fish!

In term of treatments (notice I used the term "treat" as there is no true cure), everyone has their own formulas and methods. Because of the four stages of this parasite, the debate can get out of control, depending on where people want to "interrupt" the reproduction.

How funny. It was a Yellow Tang that I tried to catch in a fish trap I borrowed from Bugs. That bugger wouldn't enter it for nothing. Every other fish in the DT entered it at some point!

My own thoughts on using a UV sterilizer is that it's probably overkill at this point. If it's (ich\crypto) in your DT then it's going to be there unless you can do a fallow period. I understand that's not likely if you can't catch all the hosts (fish). That was what I had to decide. Tear down the tank or watch what transpired. I choose the later since I couldn't catch the fish. Actually I didn't make the decision. The fish made it for me since I couldn't catch them.

That said, I have a 25 watt UV that I'm currently using to treat an algae outbreak I had on a FW 160g tank. It looks like it will be resolved in a few days. If you want to borrow that when I'm done let me know. Depending on how long you need it I'd ask that the bulb be replaced. The bulb is about 10 days used as of today. It's done a great job so far. Just let me know.
