There is a guy in Tucson on CL that posts an add for water barrels like every two weeks. Everything from 5gal-55gal, pretty cheap, food grade. They had Dr. Pepper in them. I believe he gets them from a bottling company or something. I actually just picked up two 15gallons yesterday. After I got home I realized they will weigh about 120lbs each after they are full.... Might not be the best for transporting RO/DI water.

120 lbs...lol. I've got a couple 8 gal containters now and they work great, just need a couple more to minimize my water trips during water changes. I called that sunwest place and its not too bad...under $10 for 5 gal with lid. Not too bad. If I don't find em used cheaper I'll just grab a couple from him.

There's a home in my girlfriends condo complex that has three 5 gallons of sparket that been sitting outside their door for almost 3 weeks. PM me and I'll send you the address you can drink the water and then use the bottles for your tank.
