In search of one or two water pumps to help with my mixing process. In Lakeland area. Will meet off 75 if needed.

Thanks

If you're looking for a simple pump to mix saltwater, run reactors, uv's or any non life support water transfer application, I use these. For $11 and a 25% off coupon that can be found online you're looking at $8.25. They have other pumps too if you need a higher flow rate. So far (7 months) they haven't failed me yet. And even if they did, for that price I'll just pick up another one.

For me, I use these on my BRS dual reactor, my UV Sterilizer, my in-sump water change pump and my water change container for both mixing and sending new water to the sump.

I can't believe HF never jumped to my mind for pumps before. Like Cuzza said, these should be used for Non-Life support functions, but they are dirt cheap. I saw this one for 1000gph for less than $25.00.

Really good recommendation.

Are you guys not afraid of rust or any exotic metals getting inside your tank?
Recent example Two Little Fishies magnets.

Do you really think those Chinese companies care what could happen?

The question should be what if.

Some of my animals are around $600 dollars and in my care for over 4 years, I would never risk it on cheap equipment, I guess that just me.

That's definitely true, not worth it imo. If you just need it mix salt get a smaller mag driver or something along those lines like a powerhead made for marine use.

I took one apart. There's no metal. Only ceramic. The label states "safe for saltwater". I may be newer to salt but I've had freshwater tanks and ponds my whole life so I am familiar with pumps and that pump is identical to a Sicce. I mean IDENTICAL. My guess is it's just relabeled and sold as an off brand. No different then many of the appliances, groceries, etc. that we buy.

I just had a marineland nj5500 pump rust on me. I also had a mp40 wedside magnet that swelled up on me and was rusting a couple years ago. So... check whatever equipment you have regularly, expensive or not.

I doubt you could use that one as a continuous duty pump. Most bilge, raw water, macerator pumps are not designed for that and would overheat and shut down or fail. Also, I wouldn't trust the grade of stainless steel they're using. Not for that price anyway. But still, if you own a boat you can't be that price.

Absolutely, there are no guarantees. I inspect equipment function daily and determined I would disassemble and clean all equipment thoroughly every 6 months. Which I did this past month. Any pump housing can crack and rust, otherwise those HF pumps are completely safe. If I get a year out of them I'll be happy and anymore I'll be thrilled. Knowing that I don't care if they stop working, they'll probably last forever. Lol

Also, I think many people get ripped off buying "some" name brand products and also it depends on where you're buying the product from. Nike is a perfect example. You can find the same pair at Famous Footwear and Foot Locker, but you'll be paying double the price at Foot Locker and the bottom line is it costs a couple bucks to make the shoes no matter where they're sold.

I would stay away from general public pumps (non-hobby). I highly doubt the quality and safety precautions are on par with hobby pumps if any are done at all. Not saying you need to go out and buy an MP40 to mix salt but I would stick with a cheap pump designed for our hobby. Maybe a little more than $11 but the piece of mind alone is worth it, IMO.

Actually, I have an old Koralia you can have. It's kind of loud but it moves water.

I had a mag drive pump rust in my koi pond. So like I said, there's no guarantees.

I just use a maxi jet 1200 to mix my salt and transfer to the tank....they are about $20.00 still pretty cheap... I remember trying the cheap way out when my main pump finally died i ended up buying a home depot pond pump once for a return pump on my old tank yeah the magnet swelled and rusted it was still around 50 dollars that was a waste... I stick with mag drive now I have never had a problem since....

The difference between cheapo chinese pumps and a pump like EcoTech.
EcoTech does care about their reputation and will take care of any problems you may have.

The cheapo chinese does not give a bull about anything, why should they? Its a cheap pump.

In my honest opinion based on my thinking and knowledge. I would recommend the following. This not a complete list and some of more expensive pumps was not included.

0- 900 gph, Eheim, Tunze.

0-3500 gph, Iwaki, Reeflo.

I do not like the Mag or the Sicce pumps, I believed to be on the low end of pumps.
