LFS in Roanoke area

WELCOME!!!

Don't remember the name but there was a nice shop in Bristol just a short way off I-81. I was there about 5 years ago. It was located in an old house from what I remember. There was also a nice shop in Kingsport. Don't remember that name either but they had billboards there and in Johnson City. Seems it was about 10 minutes off the interstate.

If you travel up I-81 to or past Roanoke, be sure to stop at Ultimate Aquariums. It is about mile 150 at the Fincastle/Troutville exit...just 3 minutes north (west) of I-81.

Zooquatic pets in Christiansburg has just re-entered the saltwater arena under new ownership. I haven't seen it myself but several posters on this board from that area can fill you in.

There is also a big frag swap in Knoxville this weekend. See the thread on this board for details. It's sponsored by the East Tennessee Reef Club.

Hope to see you on the board and at regular (generally monthly) reef meets held anywhere from Christiansburg/Blacksburg through Roanoke and on to the Lynchburg area.

Any other comments for a first time poster on our board?

Recent activity on this board reminds me of the Kon Tiki stuck in the doldrums. The Blacksburg crew is mostly silent. Gone for the summer?

I'll be honest here.... I had to google that phrase..... :strooper:

Anywho ... Welcome "angelusdesigns" ... hopefully you can make it to the next meet/crawl , they really are worth it ... If you need any help with anything or are ever looking for something , post here ... The tanks are incredible and the people are that much better! I get out that way (W-ville) once or twice a week for work ... Let me know if you ever need something from down this way.... Again enjoy...

Thought that all good reefers knew about the journey of the Kon Tiki. Norwegian Thor Heyerdhal and a small crew set sail from Peru on a raft made of giant balsa logs and lashed together with what passed for rope in ancient times to prove that early South American civilizations had been able to colonize polynesia from Peru. General thinking at the time was that the colonization had come from the other direction.

The journey lasted for several months. They were propelled by ocean currents and wind. There are large areas of the pacific where winds can be infrequent. These are known as the doldrums, aka deadsville. They finally reached polynesia. Quite a story back in the day.

Welcome!! Not sure where W'ville is. Some of those stores are definitely better than others you'll have to pm people to get their opinions about them. I think a few of Blacksburg are gone for a bit.....

I only have two small tanks now Both approx. 30 Gal or so. However, if things go well, I will be upgrading to a 75 gallon (picking up tomorrow). I can't wait.

I have just accepted a job offer in Roanoke so, I will be there quite often, I will have to check out Ultimate Aquariums.

My husband and I look forward to coming to some meetings after we get settled into our new place.

looking forward to meeting you guys. good luck with the 75gallon. we'll be keeping an eye out fo rsome pics

Wellcome angelusdesigns,
Sorry for the poor wellcome. There are a great bunch of people here and I guess with the summer weather everybody is out enjoying the weather and not sitting around the computer.
Look forward to seeing you at the next meet.

Ade

Welcome to the group... I am new here as well, but I can honestly say this a great group of people.
