LFS or LiveAquaria?

Who has ordered from Live Aquaria? Yay or nah? I'm worried about the Illinois temps right now being so cold.... Of course I'll be home the day of delivery but I'm still scared. They do have a guarantee which is nice. The LFS that I am looking at do not have what I want in stock, and if I ordered I would have to drive there anyway, take them out of their system and drive home and put them in my QT making for however many tank transfers throughout that week.

Now, pricing is very similar, LiveAquaria has what I want in stock, and would be free shipping.

I just wanted to know if anyone has ordered during winter and had success?

Thanks!

Or what about Petco.com ?

I think you should be ok ordering. As long as there isn't extreme cold or snow that could delay shipping everything should be ok..

You can also have it drop shipped to a FedEx or UPS store. I've done that with coral in the past. I never order fish online though and usually go to my LFS. Don't forget the cost of shipping from Live Aquaria which I find to be a bit excessive.

Free over 225. Which my order is.

I ordered fish from LA a few weeks ago (I'm in Ohio). I just had a bad experience. What came, arrived live and healthy, but they didn't ship half the order. Even though online says in stock, they told me it wasn't in stock, then gave me the run around for 2 weeks till they finally said they'd credit me back for the missing fish. It still shows my fish I wanted as "in stock". Not sure what was going on. But when I need fish again, I'm ordering from my LFS.

LiveAquaria and PetCo are the same thing now, right? I wouldn't buy from Petco no matter what so LiveAquaria is off my list now too. I've always ordered from Dr Foster and Smith too and I just placed an order last week and the speed of shipping and customer service has already gone down significantly. Too bad because I liked both for a long time, but time to move on.

I ordered fish recently from SaltWaterFish and had a great experience (even my copperband butterfly is happy and healthy). I always have all fish held at the FedEx location and pick it up there so its not sitting on the truck all day.

I've only ordered from divers den, all their stuff is shipped from Wis. Regular fish are shipped from Calf.
All I've got have been fine from divers den.

+1on not buying from live aquaria or drfs I'll never support petco. My.wife orders stuff for her rabbits from drfs and yeah what use to take her 2 to 3 days to receive now takes weeks.

NOOOOOOO!

That was the only good thing about DRFS: The supplies would get to my house in 2 days without upgrading shipping!

I was extremely impressed with DIVERS DEN !! Not at all with Liveaquaria. If you look at a previous post I made I got a shipment from both the same day. A large powder blue from LA was in one bag and the water was cold. Next box I opened was a large queen angel from DD and it had 7 bags- YES 7 bags around 1 fish!!!..

Although it is the "SAME" company from different locations the protocols of shipping and qt make DD above and beyond LA.

thanks,
JIM

Yep I can vouch for that too. Placed an order for dry good last Wednesday. It's supposed to arrive today. I can nearly walk to Rhinelander in that amount of time... I also ordered salt from them at the same time. Thats not going to be here till Thursday.

Like I said - that was my last order from them. Premium Aquatics will get all my business from now on for dry goods.

Petco does indeed own LiveAquaria.com and Divers Den. Kevin Kohen and I are now partners(employees) of Petco. As such, we are part of the Petco culture and will play a role in their overall aquatics division. This will include influencing protocols and standard of livestock care, as well as assist in supply chain management. As you may know, Kevin Kohen is a world leader in advancing, promoting and influencing the aquarium hobby.

There are challenges of course. With over 1300 stores there will always be variances in selection, store experience, and care of livestock. There have been improvements overall and there will continue to be, never will things be perfect. The key is to promote a culture of caring and improvement, which already exists and is expanding at Petco. Vetco (Petco's veterinary service) now brings a licensed veterinarian into nearly every store. Not a perfect system, but the best in the entire country.

To have a strong and expanding Divers Den and LiveAquaria.com, it is important you support your local Petco and Unleashed stores, as well as Vetco. Supporting Petco retail, assists Kevin Kohen in his mission to advance your hobby and continue operating Diver's Den and LiveAquaria.com.

Thank you,
Race Foster, Veterinarian
Proud partner of Petco, and Vetco

Thank you for listening to our concerns, Mr. Foster. I think I speak for many hobbyists when I ask that at least Diver's Den continues to be managed as it has in the past. It's the only place I trust to buy marine livestock.

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on LA, or DD. I've ordered thousands of dollars worth of livestock from them over the last ten years including since the Petco buyout . Their service and guarantees are second to none, and that hasn't changed as far as I can see. Packaging from DD is superb, from LA average. The only real change is I now have to pay sales tax; a major irritant

Divers Den is one of the few sources I use when procuring livestock for my tank. I have visited the facilitiy in Rhinelander many times and am on a first name basis with Kevin and many of the staff at the facility who care for, packs and ships our fish. Kevin and his team take great care and pride in making sure that the livestock take priority and customer service takes a close second. This and the quality of their livestock is why I have remained a loyal customer and friend. I'll be seeing them all again next weekend and look forward to bringing back a few boxes with more goodies.

LOL. I think they are changing their practices. I believe this is the reason why Mr. Foster came in to give us a better understanding on how they are making there Aquatic Division different and a new vision on how to care for these animals. I feel it's a 1 up for Petco on the saltwater side of things, getting folks in that know what they are doing. Then we wouldn't have to worry about stressed fish coming in sick or DOA at our homes or during shipping.. :)
