hi guys,
figured every now & then post what I see/hear from LFS in our neck of the woods. I was just in Pets Warehouse & they had a good selcetion of fish. things that caught eye was a Dussemeri Tang & Semilarvatus Butterfly that was eating. usual clowns & anthias, prices are on the average but we do get 10%(kinda like not paying taxes) ;)
they always seem to have one of the better selection of clams but Im not a big clam guy. the coral section is nice, a bunch of easy to care for stuff, not much exotics....you might have to trek a bit further East.

I hope people who frequent LFS also chime in to save us gas & time.

also heard new shipment coming tonight. one of the owners asked me what would increase LIRA traffic to the store  , so I said selection & lower prices. he said 20% off all livestock this weekend for LIRA......dont forget your membership cards :mixed:

if you are looking for something specific just post up & I will try to answer if I can recall it. I also intend to visit Aqua Hut over the weekend, maybe can post ahead before I spend the time to head over there....

I was in Aqua Hut this past weekend and Tony told me that their coral shipments had been delayed due to weather conditions where they were coming from. They really didnt have much of a selection on Sunday, but they have have gotten a shipment since then

I was at Pets Warehouse last week and they now have a nice frag selection that they never really had before. A bunch of zoos, Lps, some sps, ricordea. They were about $20 plus the LIRA discount. I've always preferred to get frags and watch them grow, and I like knowing they were fragged off someone else's coral and not directly taken from the reef. BTW, they all seem to be doing well. I only wish there were more reef safe marine fish that were aquacultured for the same reasons.

I was at Pet Warehouse Friday to get some salt. There selection had been getting much better, or there displaying it better. And they have lots of really nice clams. Almost bought one, but don't have the new tank running yet. (Which will have MH) Filled about 120 of the 180 gallons so far. RO unit is a dog, and I replaced the filters too, lol. Still have the sump to fill too.

Guess I am going to stop by PW! They hooked me up on the new tank and the frag tanks look great much better then they used to. IMO Aquahut and PW are the two best bets. Although my wife bought sun polyps in the Walmart shopping center in Center Reach but I dont remember the name. SHe said selection was small but nice and affordable.

At least PW and AH value LIRA members... there are a few stores out there and could care less.

I think AH treats everyone just the same, a bit more attention when they start to recognize you, not sure if anybody in AH ever visit LIRA forums. PW seems to be giving a good effort ..... getting people who cares & knows reefing, frag tank, bumping up reef safe selection on fish & giving members a nice discount off the top. asking me how he can increase LIRA traffic is also a very awsome gesture
oh, they answer the phone too...........LOL

I was out that way so I stopped in and didn't realize our own Andy(LongIslandAndy) works there so it was nice to see him and say hello. They've really upgraded the reef section and are continuing to do so...lotsa of nice SPS frags, LPS and softies as well as the fish section....so between the already 10% discount for us members and hopefully another special 20% savings it's worth a trip.....

That would be Magic Isle Aquarium. I stop in there when I go to Walmart or my mechanic around the block. They usually have a decent selection of FW and SW and most of their livestock seems to be in good shape but they are also more expensive than most stores I've been to.

Where is PW? How do you guys fare with Aquahut livestock? I'm new to the area and my tank is still cycling but a friend suggested AH. I went a couple of times - picked up some drygoods - but wasn't impressed with the look of the store or the livestock - real ghetto, no prices on most items and many of the SW tanks didnt look to hot. I like to browse without having to ask a price on everything I'm interested. Then I feel like if I dont buy something I bothered the guy and won't be welcomed next time around. The owner was friendly enough though and took time to talk to me even though he was busy so that was a plus.

Is the 20% ongoing for LIRA members or just a one time thing?

management is considering bumping the LIRA discount to 20% on livestock, but said they had to keep the 10% on the drygoods
