Lfs?

There is another LFS in Memphis but I cant remember the name of it.
I have always got great service from the Memfish staff.
I dont know if anyone has bought Kermits yet or not I had gotten a little info that someone was looking into buying it but not sure.

Memfish is the only store I would consider a LFS. There is another one in Bartlett, something fishy, but their prices are double or triple Memfish. They are ridiculous in high prices. No one that I know of buys there. Word is that someone may be opening in Kermit's old spot, but Kermit's itself is closed for good.

Jay made some really valid points! I do agree with all of that.
I dont know why my mind went blank on the name but thats the one.
And they are really over priced as Jay said.

There's also a nice store in Jackson,Tn....its Called "Below Sea Level"....great store and pretty great prices....very nice and friendly as well.... its behind logans roadhouse

I was at something fishy today. It's just as I remembered it. I chatted briefly with the owner and he said his business is great, up 25% from last year. If Kermits is closed that would explain his up-swing in business. Why did Kermits close? I always heard they were doing great.

I agree everything said thus far. MemFish is #1 in my eyes. Very Sad to see Kermits fold. Hopefully, the new buyer will have good community support for his future business.

The other thing you have to keep in mind about Something Fishy is, they are also diversified too. Ken get's a LOT of his revenue from Maintenance, but especially from Ponds and outdoor (landscaping) aquatic features. My point: He's Not exclusively REEF or Fish, so if his business is "up 25%"; which facet of his business??

I'd be hard-pressed to believe that he's enjoying all of Dave's former reef business. Richard is (and Dave was) on different plains when it comes to competitive and value-laddened solutions as a LFS for us mere hobbyists.

Here a perfect example:

Memfish - Seachem Ion Mg - $19.99

Something Fishy - Seachem Ion Mg - $39.99

Same exact bottle and size. And Something Fishy is supposed to be some certified Seachem dealer or something, you would think they would have better Seachem prices than they do. Its insane. But as posted earlier, most of their profits come from ponds I think. Plus, you have people that shop there for saltwater that have been going there for years and don't know any better or different. I overheard a conversation between the owner and a customer once, and I was appalled at some of the BS I heard.....

I shouldn't knock them, this is America and it is capitalism that rules. Charge what people will pay. That is the free market. If you are a customer and don't like it, go elsewhere or shop online. They are free to charge what they want, and I am free to not go there. And everyone is happy. :) But the BS info that I've heard there is another matter......ha

Just received this message:
"Starting in mid October, 4 Winds Aquatics will be opening up a store where Kermit's Reef use to be. More details will be announced soon."

There ya go~

Interesting. Ive heard of that shop before in Memphis, but have never seen it. Hopefully they will release more info soon. :)

This is redundant, but Richard and his staff at Memfish are top-notch. I could go on and on but their willingness to help whether you are buying thousands of dollars worth of equipment or simply need info is refreshing.

Richard sells his items at more than he pays for them. He makes a profit, but not a killing! I have never visited Something Fishey, but have heard about their pricing model from 10's of people and personally I would rather not pay exorbitant prices.

Just my $.02.

Being from out of town I do not get to go to the LFS as much as I want to. With that being said, the best thing about Memfish is seeing what color Amy's hair is this month!!!

haha thanks everyone. I agree Memfish is very friendly and helpful. Not to mention i work extremely close to them so i get to visit all the time on breaks. Theyve helped alot with my first salt setup.

I was in there today and everyone was Hey hows it going Wendy? Richard and his staff are awesome and you guys are right, they will take all the time in the world to answer questions whether you are there to purchase or just window shop. I work close by and like to pop in at lunch and visit. And yes, I love to check out Amy's "New Do's" lol.

Memfish all the way....they have always treated me right and even giv me a police discount on all purchases. Answer my questions (i have plenty!) and are very patient as i spend an hr staring at something they might only make $6 profit on.

I have used Memfish for years. They are good honest people with a lot of knowledge. It is almost an hour drive for me to get to them, but even if a store opened up closer I would probably still make the drive. Richard, Amy and their crew are tops:fish2:

I just drove past Kermit's going to the post office. There are signs on Kermits windows now saying "4 Winds Aquatics: The Ultimate Saltwater Experience". Opening Mid October.

That 4 Winds sign it's new. I was just there to buy seaweed (thus my subsequent trip to Something Fishy) and the windows were just blue. Interested to see what 4 Winds brings to the table. Anyone familiar with them? Do any business in the past? Just wanting to get a heads up on my new neighbor.
