Lfs

Hey all, I'm in Chicago for business and I was wondering which LFS is the one I should check out while I'm here... beside the Shedd LFS, of course...

My personal favorite is Old Orchard Aquarium (in Skokie). If you're into SPS, Sea Schor (out in Buffalo Grove) just moved - we arrived for the first time late Sunday right after he closed but even just the display tank in the window was worth the visit. My favorite for good deals is Fish Planet in Deerfield however it's a smaller shop - selection is kinda limited.

FWIW,

Actually I was going to make my first trip to Reef Dweller today....FINALLY found it yesterday after repeated attempts (there is NO big street sign...only some gold lettering on the front window) only to find them closed! I've been LOOOKING for the shop for like 3 months now ;)

BTW, there are a LOT of shops in the city (Aquatic World, Old Town etc..) but they are PRICEY (if you're looking to purchase anything to take home) and from my tastes, nothing terribly special for an out of town visitor. Living Sea (in Park Ridge)...lots of fish, coral selection has always kinda let me down, but the fish selection is really good (although again, pricey).

check out old town on well. Yes, it is expenesive like everyone will tell you. BUT it is worth the visit they often stock very rare fish you will not see at any other store. For example a pair of snowflake clowns in the front tank ect..

make it out of the city to the northern burbs...they are cheaper than the city ..by far.....go to oceans floor or sharkys reef or rods reef...they are the best

I really like Ocean Design, on Irving Pk Rd. His prices are reasonable, he has lots of cool stuff & QT's his fish for 2 weeks.

I finally made it over to Reef Dweller and got to hang out with Menard - lots of kewl little frags which was PERFECT for what I was looking for! This is an addicts kind of place..not for the casual hobbyist but the full fledged NUT! A+ all the way!
