life expectancy

How long do most fish live? I have a strawberry dottyback that is 8 years old and is not doing well lately. Don't know what is wrong with him and just wondering if it could be old age.

was it an adult at purchase?the data on ages varies between species but it is safe to say you can expect many common salt aquaria fish to live past 10 years. a vast generalization of course.

Well he could have been an older adult when you got him. Exceeding 10 years is not unusual.

Sorry about that. But on the brighter side, he probably lived longer in your tank (most good reef keepers survival rate is high) than in the wild.

Thx to all for the comments, my little reef tank is not the same without him but he did live pretty long considering he was fully grown when I got him and don't know how old he was then.

Biger - do you have a pic of your new 180?

Sorry for the brief reply, but I need to start "contributing to the community". Still trying to get my 50 posts so that I can sell items. The moderator re-set my post count because I made 30 bogus posts today. In fact, he re-set my post count to zero as a penalty! I was at 20 posts and now... It's been a long time since I have been 'grounded' - so silly.

I do need to get some pics of my 180. Right now I just have 3 green chromis in there with a few fish in QT so not too much to look at yet.

I guess this didn't work out too well now tha you made another worthless post and got banned.

OP are you going to get another Dottyback? I used to have a Neon Dottyback, Pseudochromis aldabraensis, and he had the greatest personality. He would come right to the front of the tank and look at me. Yesterday I saw one in a tank at Petsmart and it did the same thing and followed my finger on the glass. You can get them tank bred too.
Just a suggestion.

I am thinking of getting another dottyback and if I do I am definitely getting a tank bred one. They are really good little fish, a little aggressive but in the big tank and being tank raised should help with that I think.

I am just a little sad cause I had Hammy for so long in a little nano and he never got to go in the 180.
