Life span?

Hi
Fist I want to say I am sorry I have not been out here much lately. Its been hectic for me with work lately and I have a lot of other projects going on. I currently finnished breeding a male and female O.bimaculoides.
I will post much more on this as soon as I get a chance. I will say that things have gone great so far, the female is laying eggs and in about 5-6 months I should have some hatchings. I have also been rearing a new pygmy hatching that is eating and doing well so far after a couple of weeks.
Wish me luck every one!

Now for your question. Most species of octopus live on average of 12 months. There are some that live shoter life spans like pygmy octopus and some longer like The giant pacific octopus that lives 3-5 years.
Bathyopolypus.arcticus(the arctic octopus) can live up to 7 years.
The ones you will find in the trade however will live for about 6-12 months. Small wild caught O.bimaculoides average about 9 months in captivity. Life span is also dependant on water temp, food and over all growth rate.

Do you already have loving homes lined up for the little guys that are about to make your family a whole lot bigger?

How cool would that be if, in the not-so-distant future, we supplied one another with all of our cephs? WOW! That would be incredible.

Is there any reason why this shouldn't happen. I suppose a lot of it depends on the things we (you) continue to learn about doing this successfully.

Thanks for your hard work. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we're eager to get some pictures and an update.

Congrats!

Kip
