lifters for hood

I am building a hood for my aquarium and need lifters(like you see on car rear doors or windows but smaller). Anyone know where I might look?

You can get them at auto parts stores but I have found them cheaper at RV supply stores.

You can also get the metal ones that lock in place. To unlock them just push the middle portion in.

i use the locking ones like mentioned above, however at lowes they only come brass, no stainless steel, so about every 2 years i need to replace..............for hinges in back i used stainless steel door hinges

I saw there were an electrical motor driven kind a while back on one of the thread. Does anyone know where I can find one?

You could use a linear actuator, like the ones poeple use to lift their hatch backs open on their cars. Ebay is a great place, simply type in LInear Actuator and go from there In the automotive section, you'll find people not only selling the actuator, but a 3 button controller as well. This is what I'm using on my canopy, but I have a roof above that I can lift to, and the canopy facia goes all the way to the ceilling.
