Light covers

I have 2 130 watt coralife PC lights. Should I take off the plastic sliding covers to get more light to the tank?
does it really matter?
Thanks

John

I wouldn't. Just make sure they are clean inside and out. It's not worth risking a fish splashing water onto something electrical inside the unit IMO.

I still wouldn't. Just to keep splashes away when feeding or doing maintenance of some kind. As long as the glass is clean and clear it doesn't make much difference.

I would take the glass off the top of the tank and if you don't have them get some legs for the light fixtures. Your tank needs to have some form of oxygen exchange.

Oxygen exchange-- First the tops only cover about 75% of the top.
Second, i have penguin hang on filters so they provide some oxygenation.
Third I have 2 big powerheads with the air tube attached.
Is this enough?
Just wondering.
Thanks

I hate filling up with RO water. I have to hook it up to my sink and fill up buckets. I am going to keep the tops on for now I think, at least until i start having more problems.
Thanks for the input everyone.

What is the water turnover with the filters and powerheads? Minimum that you want is 10X per hour with 20X+ being optimal.
Also, do you have allot of microbubbles with the airhoses on the powerheads?
