This is just something I am throwing out there for comment , I had my ballast fry last week so I ordered a new t-5 set-up, I needed something to light the tank (90 gallon reef) for the mean time because I was afraid I might loose something, so I went in the garage and grabbed a 2 lamp 4' shop light with a couple of cheepo shop type lamps in it and stuck it right on top of the tank.
The color is aweful, the water looks like urine, but the corals are doing fine and I have even noticed some growth. it doesn't seem like that would work, I've read so much about lighting and I am way under lit right now but so far all is good and it has been over a week, the new light should be here any day though!

Oh ok, I think that you'll love the T5s... I switched to T5s from MH and couldn't be happier. Just make sure that you have good quality bulbs!

Good quick thinking. I've grown softies under NO lighting. Not something I would do long term as the color usually looks like %&*. However, definitely better than nothing in a pinch.

If its been longer than a week, you may want to run a shorter photoperiod so you don't shock anything.

Yeah, I was thinking that, I was planning on running just part of the new light for a couple of days maybe to see how things adjust.
The color is really aweful but even the few SPS I have in there are showing signs of growth, which suprises me.
Serpentman, When Disco reef rover was over here the other day he said you were just a few minutes away from me, we'll have to meet up some time!
