Light for 125gal

Is this a decent light for a 125gal as far as t5 is concerned and for the price.

Current Nova Extreme Pro Saltwater T-5 72"

What are you planning on keeping? That light would be good for most things. I personally would go with an eight bulb, it would give you a little more room on high light coral placement. are you buying it new?

The downside to that light is that it doesn't have individual or parabolic reflectors, unless they changed something. which means less light intensity. Have you checked out Tek lights? might be worth the extra change for a higher quality light.

from info for light, it says individual reflected.... see text below, unless im reading it wrong. yes i would be buying it new from dr fosters

The Current USA Nova Extreme Pro T5 aquarium lighting fixture is for reef aquariums. With twelve 39 watt T5 bulbs (which have greater output watt per watt than competing technologies), and individually contoured reflectors, the Nova Extreme Pros have greater output than almost all non-metal halide reef aquarium lights. The relatively low heat output of the T5s along with the dual fans will keep this fixture running cool and minimize heat transfer to your tank.

i currently have sps, lps, and clams in my 75 with 4 bulb t5 sundial so i was thinking this would be suffiecient. the only thing this doesnt have that my existing light has is built in timers. i will also be selling my existing light when the new one comes in.

your thoughts?

That light would be good then. The "individually contoured reflectors" are parabolic. meaning one reflector shaped to wrap around the bulbs, which is fine. I haven't read any reviews on the light, so as far as quality I don't know. maybe someone else can chime in on that. I personally wouldn't spend the money for built in timers. I trust my analog timers from wal-mart over any digital timers, but that is just me.

I have a nova extreme (not pro) 48" over my 55gallon tank, and I like it just fine. It's not the greatest light, but the addition of the contoured reflectors should make it a fine light. The quality of the housing itself is very nice, I did have a problem with one of the plastic legs, I snapped it off moving it once, but it was entirely my fault. The plastic cover also got junked up with salt so bad once that I had to partially disassemble the fixture to force it out, but regular cleaning, and running tops over the tank, would help greater.

I would also look for an 8 bulb fixture, if it were me, if nothing else but for the depth of the tank, but running 4 bulbs over my 55gallon worked fine for everything I threw at it. I would have likely ordered another Nova Extreme for my 90 if I had not had a retrofit canopy.

That is the type of light I had on my old 125. It is a great fixture, especially for the price. With the right bulbs, not the stock bulbs, you will be very happy. The stock bulbs are not very good.

I doubt you will be able to do SPS on the bottom, clams may be iffy. Anything 1/3 and up should be fine. Before I broke down my tank, I had several SPS pieces under it and all seemed to be growing well. Softies and LPS of course had no problems with it.

i currently have clams with my sundial T5 and sps fairly close to the buttom. is there that much of a difference. i mean, there is 2 more bulbs (well 8bulbs) and the same individually contoured reflectors?? im also still using the stock bulbs....

I can give you an honest opinion on tek lights. They are awesome, tons of light and sleek profile. Very well made light fixture.
