Light for cheato

I've got a small fuge with a 8 watt flouresent grow light over it I leave on all the time. I've got about 15 mangroves sprouting and they're doing fine. I got some cheato a while back and it's almost all gone.

Is the light not enough? Are the mangroves eating up the nitrates?

What do you think?

I do not know much about mangroves, but I can tell you the light I use just to give you an example of what some people might use.

I use a Finnex 12" 13w 6700k fixture. Light

From what I gathered here on RC and in my own expierence, and some one please correct me if I'm wrong but, that the color temp of the light is important for fuges, with the lower the better for macroalgaes 6700k area.

Ive used this light on my fuge for 5months and my chaeto has tripled in size and nitrates are always at or around 0.

flap,
i have cheato and mangroves in my sump, they are lighted with a energy saving bulb putting out 100w, but using only 23w of power...cheato is growing like mad and my mangroves have been sprouting leaves nicely. Bump up the light, should help out.
HTH.

The 2 40W "plants/aquarium' bulbs are only 2700 K - I have two of them over the 30 gal fuge...is this not good? Do I need higher k bulbs?

Racenrich, Where did you get your mangrove seeds? Are they reds?

Hey,
they were stalks already....no leaves and min root growth...been about 4 months now and they have serious root growth and about 3-5 leaves each :D

oh yeah, green i say....they have RED? id like to get me some of them!

As far as I know the red are green (go figure). I think the wood is red. I collected seeds in Florida and rooted mine. Some actually started rooting in the bag. They sound about as far along as yours. Where did you get yours?

Maybe I'll swap out my light fixture to what you have and see what happens.
