light for refugium

I recently bought a HOB 18' refugium for my 30g tank. I have a light and was wondering if I could judt buy one of those spiral 6500k bulbs and use that. Will that work, and how much time on and off?

if the light/hood you have will run the bulb, I say go for it Corbett, and leave the light on either opposite your display lights, or 24/7, depending on what you have growing in the fuge, ...

sorry to jump in, but why would you have to light it opposite your display or 24/7?
