Light Schedule

I was just wondering what light schedule you ran on your aquarium, and what benefits you have noticed for such coral? Thanks for sharing.

12pm - 10pm actinics
1:30pm - 8:30 pm metal halide
10pm - 12 pm moon lights and fuge light

haven't diagnosed any benefits; just put the lights on that cycle. everybody's happy.

I just changed mine from 1pm to 9pm. The timer is running my ballast for my 2 vhos and my ballast for my 250 metal halide. Although I think my timer is not built to run two ballast. So at this point I have not figured out a way to run my vhos and metal halide at different time intervals.

Blue Led OFF / White Led ON @ 9:00AM
Actinic Blue CF ON @ 9:30AM
White Led OFF / 150W Mtl Hal ON @10:00AM

White Led ON / 150W MH OFF @ 10:00PM
Actinic Blue CF OFF @ 10:15PM
White Led OFF / Blue Led ON @ 10:30PM

White Leds: 1.5 hours
Actinic Blue CF: 12.75 hours
Metal Halide: 12 hours
Blue Leds: 10.5 hours

PROs: I get VERY good growth on all corals! And the tank looks good all day when I look at it.

CONs: Power Consumption, Heat, Some corals do not reach good coloration in this much light.

I rum white LEDs 24hrs a day
T5s from 10am till 8:30pm
MHs from 12pm till 6:30pm

I have thought about increasing my MHs to see if I get faster growth. I do get good PE now.

On my 20L I ran actinics only for 2 hours, then added on the 10k bulb for 7 hours, then finished with 2 more hours of actinic only. That always seemed to be the best pattern for the tank, but I didn't observe all that closely.

Actinics 1230 to 1030pm
MH1 1:30 to 8:30pm
MH2 from 2:30 to 9:30 pm
Blue LEDS from 830 pm to 8:30 am

Fuge alternates ON/OFF with the MH's

This way I can take full advantage of viewing when I get home from work on the weekdays. When the actinics go off...It's time for me to go to bed.
