lighting design question

I am replacing my tank hood with a hanging light fixture.
The fixture will be a reinforced wire closet shelf with plenty of ventilation.

What I was wondering is what would be the best orientation for the lighting.

The tank is 72” long and 25” wide and 25” deep with braces every 24”

I have 3 250w mh's. Should the bulbs be oriented perpendicular or lengthwise to the tank?

I will also install compact fluorescent atinics the length of the tank, would you place them in the front of the display or back?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

That might be something you have to fiddle with to see what you like and how it lights the tank the best for you. Are they SE or DE pendants(don't think it matters to much in a pendant) but if it is an SE I think I remember reading some where that the to better perpendicular to the tank but I may be mistaken. pendants

they are single ended. I think your right about fiddling. The installation will make it very easy to adjust. I am leaning toward having the bulbs lengthwise at the moment.
