lighting distance?

Thanks ahead of time..I have a few questions on lighting that i could sure use some feedback.

I have a 400 watt 20k metal halide fixture but i dont think i have the correct distance from corals.I see all these beautiful sps tanks here and cant help but feel fustrated.I currently have the fixture itself 17 and a half inches from the tanks water level and 27 and a half inches from the corals.I house both lps and acroporas on different sides of the tank.If anyone could please tell me whats the proper level for acroporas and lps?

i had mine at 12" bulb to water...what type of reflector?

Mine are about 12" bulb to water as well (Lumenmax Elites). I had them closer...and...oops...melted the center brace a little bit.

i have a reef optix 5 light reflector pendant that i got from sunlight supply.However its a 400watt system.So are your suggestions to keep reflector only 12 inches from water?How far from actual coral?tahnks for the feedback
