lighting for coraline

is 36 or 72 watt compact lighting strong enough for coraline growth?

I think about anything is strong enough for coraline. For some reason I've noticed the best with VHOs.

Watts has nothing to do with coralline growth. You get coralline by have the proper calcium, alk, and ph levels. I've noticed a bluer light helps in coralline growth. Also what size is your tank that you plan on having 36 or 72 watts on?

I agree with the above. Lighting is not very important for coralline, in fact I think brighter lighting (like halides) actually slows coralline growth. My old refuge (20g) had almost complete coralline coverage (at least 80%) and it had a 8 year old 20w daylight bulb over it from my freshwater days.

After I switched from my jebo pc to my mh my coraline has slowed down alot.

When I cooked my rocks in absolutely dark buckets i grew a lot of red coraline on my rock. So I think light miiight effect color of coraline at least.

garf grows great coralline under 40w no bulbs. cheap.
