Lighting for Oceanic 40g stretch hex

Which light works better? I'm planning to keep mainly sps corals with some rics.

Sunlight Tek Light T5 Hood - 24" x 4 bulb

or

Sunlight Maristar Complete - 24" - 250 watt with 2 x24w T5s

I'm concerned about temp if I go w/ Maristar. If I go w/ T5 fixture, then I won't have shimmering effect. Help me choose...

I slapped the 24" Maristar over my 40 stretch hex and it worked awesome. The tank on the other hand.... Premiumaquatics.com has a great deal on the silver 24" Maristar in their clearance section for about half the price of teh black unit.

You got me worried after seeing your thread. Maybe I should wait a month or so just to be safe. I've already drilled my tank in the back and was working on plumbing. Keep us posted. Thanks.

sooo im guessing the bottom of these tanks arent tempered.....interesting.....i had been emailing oceanic for weeks trying to get an answer as to whether or not they were. thank god i only got mine at petco for $40 so it wouldnt have been a big deal if i broke it drilling it.

Yup definitely not tempered. It would have shattered into a million pieces if it was.

I wouldnt worry, I dont think these particular tanks are flawed. I just got a lemon. My tank is on its way back to Oceanic for inspection before they will refund my money.

As for the light, I love it. The Blue Wave III ballast is silent and it is definitely a perfect fit on this tank.

So is your ballast fried as well? Shouldn't Oceanic cover for the ballast as well?

Their warranty states they it does not cover any property damage. I will have to just drop another $150+ on a new one.

I am very disappointed because I set that tank up just how I wanted. Now I have to start from scratch again....
