lighting for refugium

I just recently installed a refugium on my 550gal FO system
I have kept the lights on 24/7
Is there any advantage to cycling them?
The macro algae is doing fine, but I was wondering whether some darkness was neccessary for better growth

If your only goal is to grow macro algae then you can run the lights all the time. If you want to establish a more natural environment for other inhabitants then you might consider running a reverse cycle where your fuge lighting is on the opposite schedule as your display lighting. The only other thing to consider is if you want to counter-act a flux in pH or Temp during the display's nighttime since pH and Temp drops when the lights are out.
