how to choose lighting for refugium? i been doing research online but it's all confuse me.

can someone guide me a little here? thanks

I light my fuge with a 27 watt compact flourescent light from home depot. I think it cost me 20 bucks total to set up.

I agree. Cheap "grow lights" work good. It all depends on how big your fuge is to provide enought light for what ever you are keeping in there. By the way, Welcome to RC!!!

hello Leesanhua
and welcome to RC. everyone here is willing to help anyone out .
great bunch of people:rollface:

I have a 96 watt quad powered by a workhorse 5 ballast over my 10 gallon fuge. The macros grow very quick and the cost is not that bad.

Workhorse 5 - $25
96 Watt Quad - $20
PC End Cap - $4

Welcome,

It all depends on what you planning to keep in your fuge. If it is macro algae then (IMO) there is no point of going higher than 6500K on color temperature; as for pods - they dont care about light at all; but if you plan on using fuge as a frag/isolator (where you'd place corals, etc...) then you need to go with fancy lights.
