Lighting + Hammer

I had to move my hammer coral down in my tank last night. I noticed that it wasn't opening up as well as when I first got it. I think it was getting too much light.

I have Solar Flare lights from Aquatinics.

However, the three heads on the hammer have all split, and now I have 6.

Soooooo.....now I have a spot near the top of my tank that looks a little bare. Any suggestions on some LPS that can handle some stronger lighting?

How high up are we talking? most LPS corals do well under moderate lighting and flow...Have you given any consideration to SPS corals for those high spots in your tank? Just a thought?? I think some of the War Corals and Pentagona Favites can adjust to higher lighting such as the Tyree Martian Moon Favites

to quote from Tyree's website regarding the Martian Moon "A distance of 14 to 16 inches from a 400 watt 20 K works best"

I would say that the highest place would be 16 inches from the light.

I've never realy liked the look of SPS. To me they are just colourful twigs. That's why I decided to go with LPS.

I've never seen anything up here (Toronto, Canada) labled as "war corals". Would they go by another common name?

Doug, a pipe organ would fry under my lights. But they are pretty!

The War Corals are very nice but I only have seen true War Corals listed as such, I know Canada get lot's of sweet stuff, I am sure they have found there way up there somehow ;)

How bout the Baby's Breath Favia? this likes a decent amount of light to get the colors to really pop

OOOH! kev, that's a sweet coral ! I'd kill for a piece of that. unfortunatly, I still never see any of the nice Favia up here in our stores.

I guess I have to hope and pray that a fellow hobiest is willing to frag a piece of something that cool.

I wish could send you a frag of it :( How about Canadian coral vendors online? or frags.org? it's a limited edition coral so if you did a search for "Baby's Breath Favia" you might be able to find a vendor in Canada

Thanks for the tip Kev. I'll see if I can track a frag down. *fingers crossed*
