Lighting issue 47g Hexagon Tank

I am fairly new to the hobby and want to move from a(unsuccesful) fish tank to a reef tank. My tank is a 47g hexagon tank. I currently have a 24 inch coralife powercompact light but want to upgrade to a more powerful light I am thinking a T5. I would like to have clams, hard corals, and anemones. I live in Canada and dont want to break the bank. If anyone has any sugestions it would help.

If you are a diy'er then check out the diy forum. If you can build a canopy for the hex, then you could do retrofit lighting. You can do a single retro MH setup which includes the reflector, socket, and wires for around $90. Check out www.hellolights.com to get started.

maybe get a MH for the center and some PCs along each side. or brigdge 2 together.

or i just thought of a great idea!
make a hanging pendant
make it 6 sided to match your tank. outside edged could line up to your tank or a little smaller. , angle the outer flanges so it reflects light back down. goto home depot/lowes buy a few pieces of mirror glass, have them cut it to fit and viola~!!! instant super bright light. id use a 14k bulb

i got one more idea brewing for you you might enjoy! working on it in paint.. wish i had a decent 3d cad program...

i like it alot but i am not sure if i am that handy but its worth a try because it would look sweet. Just wondering how high above the water should the light be

depends on the light. a 400watt .. prolly 6 - 8 inchs. maybe more or less.. depends if you need an extra heater or not =P
