Lighting Question

If I suspend a 250 watt halide light over my 55 gallon will that give me enough light for clams/sps? I was thinking about using something like this: http://www.sunlightsupply.com/aqua/products.aspx?request=AQUA_LM_MOGUL&title=Reflectors&type=product

It will be enough but you will need 2 of them if it is a standard 55 gallon to get good coverage.

Should I get a 400 watt pendant instead? Its the same cost.

Each pendant, regardless of the wattage will illuminate about 2 feet of tank. One foot in from each side would be in shadow if you use a single pendant over a 4 foot tank. Anything can be kept under the light spread of a 250 watt fixture.

They have this exact same pendant at my LFS and the 400w lights up a 4 foot just fine. The pendant is pretty large at 22 inches long.
