Lighting Question?

I have a 48 coralife aqualight pro with twin 150 hqi and 96 watt 34 inch true actinic 03 blue compact fluorescent lamps. I wanted to know if I could interchange the power compacts bulbs for more of a deeper blue. Or something that makes the colors pop out more. Thanks for any info.

The 03 actinics (TRUE actinics) are more of a purple. They're 420 nm (nanometers). You can get blue lights that are NOT true actinics (but still often called actinic) which is 460 nm. I would suggest getting half 460's and half what you have, because the 460's are very bright in comparison to the regular 03's.

Its said that 03's make corals fluoresce more (you know, where they glow bright green or whatever), but when i added one of the 460's, i noticed WAY better colors. They fluoresced way more than just the 03's and the overall color is now better.

I got them from hellolights.com since they're the cheaper pc bulb place, but you can get em' elsewhere.

What K rating are your 150 halides? You can get higher K halides and you may get better color (but dont get 15K halides...i hear they give off the worst PAR ratings)
