Lighting Question

I have been doing this for a while, but can't remember something about my lights.
I have the good old Coralife hood with 4 65W pc's in it. I ordered new bulbs and they sent me 55W pc's. The website said 55/65. The bulbs were smaller than the originals and didn't fit into the clips as tightly. I was told by the company that the bulbs are driven by the ballast. If I have a 65W ballast, then they fire as 65W bulbs. The reason I'm wondering is that the bulbs are smaller in diameter and I now have a wonderful tank full of green hair algae.

Any clues?

From what I've read, the 55/65 bulbs are interchangable. Your algae problem may be because of the newer/brighter bulbs. Do they look good or are they kinda funny looking?

Kind of dim. My tank looks like crap. My Typhoon III is showing Zero on the TDS. Frustrating.
