I'd recommend you start off with metal halide, or T5 lights, and totally bypass the NO and VHO.

What do you want to keep? That's a bit like asking, "Can I buy an economy size car." Yes, if you want to transport people and a few materials, no if you want to move the space shuttle....you see where I'm going?

Well, I haven't started anythign as of yet but I plan to start up a couple of tanks soon.
I have a 29 gallon that I just received and cleaned and I plan on buying a 90 gallon. I plan to keep a couple of perculas with a Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral, if that's possible, in the 29 gallon. That's what I want in it at least and if I can add anything else that would be great. In the 90 gallon I still haven't made up my mind. Perhaps a couple percs again and have everything else be mushrooms, Soft corals and later on maybe even an anemone.

If you are doing softies I would look into the Nova t5 lights from CurrentUSA. They are pretty cheap and do a great job. I have a few 55 gallons with those fixtures and have great growth and color with the corals. If you are going to keep higher light corals go MH or try the TEK lights.
