I notice that alot of people put their actintics next to their M.H. in the reflectors does this have any effect on the bulb from the heat?

Mine are right at the edge of the reflectors now but my old hood had them running about 6 inches away from the MH bulb. Haven't noticed any difference between the set-ups bulb wise. I don't think the heat would matter. It's just glass and gas near the bulb. If it was at the end caps I might be concerned but not in the middle. HTH.

They should work alright with the heat as long as they are not getting so hot that it could pop the bulb.

But I will say that, fluorescent tubes burn brighter and output more lumens when operated at a cooler temp thats why bulbs outside in a garage or something tend to be Brighter during the winter. So if you want the best out of your bulbs it would be best to keep a fan on them and keep them as cool as possible.
