Lighting Question

breutus

Don't ask me, I'm wrong.
Is a blacklight bad for the fish or corals in the tank? While I'm sure it doesn't do much for them, does it hurt them? because it really makes the colors in the corals stand out drastically.

See if you can get specs on it. The color of the flashlight I picked up is 395 nm and many zoas will close up quickly when it is shined on them. Lots of other stuff really glows but I am afraid it will do more harm than good.

No real science to back that up, just observations.

It's good observation though because I noticed my bambams closed up pretty quick but my gorilla nipples didn't...

I heard once a long long time ago when I was first getting into FRESHwater that BL makes fish go blind but who knows why that stuck in my head I can't find any science on it now

While I have ya Are your lights up this year yet? I was thinking about driving the kids by?

Lights are up but Mother NAture has other plans for the wiring. I planned to spend today waterproofing the computer connections but Mom got to them first.

They should be on by mid week. Don't forget to tune to 101.5 FM for the music.
