Lighting question

I am in the process of setting up a 55 gallon frag tank (I know this tank isn't ideal but its what I have) and am trying to decide on my lighting. I would like to eventually try my hand at sps once I have the tank up, running, and stable so this should be taken into account. Money is also tight seeing as Im a student so bargin shopping is a must, Id say not much more than 200. Does anyone have suggestions on a quality T5 or MH setup in this pricerange that would fill these needs?
This being said I have always read that 7watts/gal was the min when attempting SPS but then read about this amazing setup in potugal!

These are some amazing frags and with 4.4 watts/gallon of his 'nursury' Im left scratching my head.
He uses ATI T5's. Thoughts, feedback, comments?

the watts/gal is really and outdated method measuring lighting performance. for instance have in 250w of PC's will not give light output as 250w MH.
Having said that, the Tek fixture is a good one, if you add some fans to blow over the endcaps, you'll get better performance.
Can you do retros? may be a cheaper option for you, and will work very well.

I never have done a retro kit but am sure I could manage. Any good sites/brands advised for a quality retro kit. Im thinking a 6 x 54w bulb set up would keep my coral options open. I've ben looking around and haven't found anything that would be cheaper. Most retro kits for 2 bulbs are a bit more than $100 making them more than this lamp I linked. Is this lamp less because its for plants? Couldn't I just change out the bulbs and be g2g?

you could look at diyreef and reefgeek for retro kits.
as for the grow light, i'm not sure; don't know if they are using all the same pieces just marketing it differently; you could always call and see if they will tell you.
