lighting questions.....maybe a trade?

A little background....

My plan was to build my entire system from scratch to have a little...ok big...project. I wanted to build something along the lines of 30x18x18 or so....those plans have changed and I bought a tank that was already made....and it is only 12 inches deep.

I purchased a 250w se lumenarc mini from Karl, and had planned on using a xm20k bulb. now I am concerned about having a mixed reef in such a shallow tank with this light...

What do you guys think would be appropriate for a 30ish gallon tank that is only 12 inches deep? I was thinking maybe t5's but miss the halide shimmer...I then thought about 150 watters but have never really been impressed by them. help me out with some opinions please!

If you use the 250s all you have to do is put them higher up, say 10 inches above the water or so. I have a 400W MH on my 55G but I have that bad boy 12 inches above the water and everything looks great.

awesome! Thats the answer I was hoping to get....I am going to be hanging the reflector like a pendant so I will make sure I can change the height of it and will start t 10-12 inches! Im excited I dont have to look at other lighting options!
