Lighting questions!!!

hey I have a 2x250 MH set up on my tank. Tha ballast are kinda old. don't know much about them. I was wondering if it is possible to change the fixtures to DE bulbs. Now it is the mogul type. Will I be able to use the same ballast. I am trying to save space in my canopy. the reflectors I have now are so big I don't have any room to add actinics. Thanks for the help.

Only HQI and electronic ballast could fire up DE bulbs, check on your ballast for the ANSI type, HQI's are ANSI M80, if they are not, you can't.

Well, I am wanting to change to DE bulbs to save some space in my canopy. My ballasts are old so I dunno what I can do with them. They say they can run m58 bulb or h37 mercury lamp. I dunno What that means. I don't see where it might say magnetic or electric. Is there a way I can tell? Thank you for your help.

It probably means that it's an M58 magnetic ballast.
