I'm looking to upgrade to some real reef lighting for my 55gal.I'd prefer something that sits on the aquarium instead of a hangover but I'm not too perticular.I did find a good deal on a 4bulb t5 hangover .I'm just not sure if they provide enough light(would have to check output)but would like to be able to grow most corals. If anyone has any advice or lights that might suit me let me know .thanks

cool thanks i've looked @ ebay but unsure of what i should go with and that is around what i want to spend.

Can't go wrong with a tek light, probably one of the most popular lights. Tek have both kits; for hanging or placing on top of the aquarium. Make sure to look for the t5 fixtures that have individual reflectors in them (more light output that way). My 55g system has a 48" Wavepoint. Its a pretty nice fixture but it only has 1 switch to activate all 4 bulbs + its all sealed with no fans. Upside is it has a glass shield to cover the bulbs and a gfi built right into the light.

when you choose the light you want to go with, don't forget to check out the used equipment and drygoods on RC. Might find a steal :)

I can recommend the DeepBlue SolarXtreme fixture for sure. I have the 36" fixture with 2 stock bulbs and 1 Geisman Actinic plus and 1 Geisman Aquablue and I freakin love it!! Great fixture, comes with both mounting legs and hanging kit as well as build in LEDS and timer. Can't beat the price either. Check pet boulevard.

My 60 gallon is the same footprint as yours and I use a Current Extreme Pro four bulb fixture. It's certainly not top of the line, but it was inexpensive and working fine for me.

A Tek light will far surpass most of the competition in that price range in terms of quality. A 4x54w fixture will allow you to keep whatever you'd like in a 55G, especially with good bulbs. :)

thanks for all the help guys one more question might be if anyone "local"(buffalo maybe rochester) keeps these in stock I do like supporting local business and could pick it up quicker than having it shipped.
