Lighting suggestions for a 96" long 210.

I purchased a 210 Oceanic that is 96" long and I am trying to get some ideas for lighting. This tank is 24" deep (I think) and will be housing mostly SPS corals and a couple of clams. I am planning on this tank having a canopy but it isn't built until I figure what lighting I am going to use. I currently have a 110 with dual 400 watt MH's and thought about utilizing the MH's on the 210 with the addition of a third one. My concern though with this setup is energy consumption. So now I am thinking of a Solaris setup or possibly T5's. My problem though is the lenght of the tank. Does anyone have any experience lighting this type of tank and what have you had the best luck with. Pics would be great if anyone has any. Ideas, thoughts or any type input would be appreciated.

I did'nt know that AGA made an eight foot (96 inches) tank, my 210 AGA is six foot (72 inches). If it is, your are going to need four MH lights for coverage. As far as I know Solaris does not make an eight foot fixture either, maybe two four footers and they ain't cheap. T

I use 3 250 MH in DIY reflectors with Aquaconnect 14K and 2 165 VHO, and 6 Current lunar lights on my 96 inch tank.

I realize that 250's would be the way to go as far as energy consumption vs the 400's but I already have two 400 MH's. I like the idea of 8 T5's x 54 but how would I go about hanging these in a canopy? I have no experience with T5's so excuse the ignorant question. Are they able to be attached directly to the lid of the canopy or would they have to be suspended with a cable.

You could do something on a light mover to save cost on lights and elec. bill. Also I would be courious to see all your measurements for the tank to see what the true gallaons are.

What about the openings in the top, no one has mentioned that.

My apologies guys, I mis-read the tank brand- Oceanic. I just checked the Oceanic website and they don't offer a 210 gallon 96 inch tank either.

hopper I'm curious, was your tank a custom order? What are the dimensions?

My bad, I went and remeasured just now and it is 84" and not 96" as previously stated. I bought this tank from someone that had ordered it and never set it up. It is 2 years old now and has never seen water. So I have to check the seams real well before I get it going on the stand. It has corner overflows and a center-brace across the middle. I was correct on the LxH though as these are both 24". According to the RC calculator though it still comes up to 210 gallons.

I have a 110 that is 30" deep and I really like the dept of that tank. It does draw issues though if you have SPS corals down at the bottom of the tank. That's why I have 400 watt MH's on it.

I would use the 3- 250's with an pfo hqi xm10k and two vho's you will save alot of heat and the xm have more par then most 400's you will grow anything anywhere in your tank.
