Lighting

What are you planning to keep in the tank? FOWLR, no need to invest in high end coral growing lighting. If your going for a reef tank then there are several options ranging in price and performance depending on the type of corals (softies, LPS, SPS) you want to keep.

The : Lighting, Filtration & Other Equipment forum has some good information on lighting.

Good luck.

Kessil A160WE, gives you the full package at a decent price. But, if you want to run a program, you'll need to buy the Spectral Controller as well unless you have an Apex controller.

Growing corals I would go with Radion XR15.

Not growing corals I would go with a cheap LED light that covers the top well so the entire tank is lit well otherwise it can cause massive shading if only half the tank is covered in the light.

Growing corals or not growing corals, the expensive Radion isn't any better at doing either than most of the inexpensive Chinese fixtures. It just has more bells and whistles.

A MarsAqua fixture will grow coral in your tank for under $90, an OceanRevive T247 can do it for $175, the Radion XR15 will do it for $300+. Oh, and 1 MA or 1 OR fixture is enough... you may need 2 Radions!

Does the Radion grow coral any better? No. But it has more buttons and programs for the reefer to play with. It's like the difference between a Toyota Camry and a BMW. They both can get you where you want to go and do it safely and efficiently. But the BMW has lots more bells and whistles.:lolspin:

I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. Not all LEDs are created the same just light not all VHO and T5 bulbs and Halide lamps are created the same.

Build quality makes a huge difference in the performance of the lights over a period of time.
