hey im about to buy a new light and im trying to save some money so i was wondering if t5 lighting is sufficent enought to keep most corals or if i sould just save a little more and go with a MH? Also suggestions on brands and models to as well i had PC's but i am getting rid of them cause i need more light

IMO, I would go with t5s. If you get enough, you will be able to keep anything. Some peopl say they work better than halides. Another good thing about them is they are energy-efficient. Plus they put out very little heat. Just my 2 cents:). Hope that helps

i have the 4-39watt T5HO Icecap retro over my 46 gal. and love it. the only corals that don't like the light are my shrooms but that was expected as they don't like alot of light but all my SPS, LPS, softies, and leathers all love it.

For me, it came down to aesthetics. T5's will get the job done for whatever you want to keep, but I love the shimmer effect that MH's give, as well as the way the colors jump out. The MH "look" is the one I want -- for you, you might be happy with the T5 look.

thanks for the help since i live in key west and its quite hot here i really dont want to have the heat that the MH produces but i have done some further reaserch and it seems that the t5's will do the job thanks for all the help

Take a look at
www.aquactinics.com

I have their MH with t5 blue supplementation on my reef and I also have a t5 fixture of theirs over a freshwater planted tank.

If you don't have a chiller, then I'd recommend that you get one of their MH fixtures since they actually don't transfer any heat into the tank. It's true that they don't...as they claim.
