Lighting ?

sounds like it could be an issue with the ballast, or maybe a faulty connection that breaks when the halide or ballast gets really warm, and connects again when it cools off. I'd be wary of fire risk.
 
The ballast probably has a restart feature on it. In other words the ballast knows when the bulb looses its arc and restrikes when it cools. The big question is why is it loosing arc in the first place?
 
If you want to try a new bulb I have a couple of 70 DE if yours is DE. You could try one for a day or so and see if it works.
