i have an issue with a green algea or bacteria covering parts of my sand bed. it seems to be present only in areas exposed to direct light. shaded areas are not "infected". my idea is to try a lights out period to see if i can kill off what is there and then do an immediate water/media change. it started only after i began carbon dosing which i have stopped for about a 2-2.5 weeks now. what do you guys think? and suggestions is much appreciated.

For me lights out has only had minimal effect on GREEN algae... works wonders on Red Cyano (bacteria)..

I have seen no ill effects on the tank with a 3day lights out.

I'd say remove as much as possible, bring phosphates down by growing macro-algae in the fuge, as well as using feric oxide. Lighting is just a temporary fix to the problem as it will just end up coming back!
