linkia stars

Hey guys i was wondering how safe linkia stars are with coral .. im afraid of gettin starfish because i had a CC starfish which killed a nice amount of coral .. anyone have experience with linkias?

yes i have had 4 and they never touched the corals just dont touch them the will die less then 24 hours after you touch it.

If the tank you intend to add the star to is the 20H in your information, then skip it. None of the reef safe starfish are likely to do well in a tank that small long term. They need generally ~100 of well established LR to do well long term since their diet is unknown other than that they appear to graze something from the rock. They also need very stable salinity and pH.

Touching them is completely harmless. The myths that touching them or exposing them to air will kill them are nothing more than myths. They probably initially came about because the cause of the stars' death usually occurs weeks to years before they show outward signs and it's natural to try to correlate it to something more recent.

I've had mine since July 8th - 2007 and its still going strong...
my system is about 8 1/2 months old (when i added it) and i have it in a 30g with plenty of LR.

Just sharing my experience with it.

The picture below was taken 5/16/2004. I moved my Blue Linkia from my first tank (50g) to my second tank (180g) to my third tank (250g) where it still is today.

well first of all CC stars are not reef safe. The linckia starfish is an algae eater and will do fine with other corals. I personally have an orange linckia star in my 20g long and it seems to be doing fine. However the key word is seems, im still a newb and acording to greanbeen they will not do well in this small of a tank.... long term being the key...goodluck
