lion fish feeding

i've recently purchased a Spotfin Lionfish, which i'm in love with, it is everything i wanted it to be, but i'd like to get him on flake food instead of guppies. does anyone have any ideas on how to get him on flake food? any advice would be much appreciated.

I didn't know that lionfishes can eat flake food. I have Volitan, feeding by pieces of defrozen grocery seafood and fish, with selcon.

Skip the flake and get him onto frozen meaty foods. Small pieces of chopped shrimp or scallop. Silversides, occasional krill, small pieces of boneless whitefish. Don't feed the fish every day. I used to have a volitans lion that would go after big pieces of flake, but in the long run, it's not going to be sufficient.

who told you flakes?? it is possible, but why would you want to do it? frozen meaty foods are best. do you live near a beach? I noticed you like to fish. Catch some minnows next time you go out. My lion and triggers eat live food all summer long.

Dont feed a lion flake. Like others said get him on meaty foods, and once he's trained to eat "dead" frozen foods from the water column he might start to eat pellets that sink slow. Thats what my old one did, would never touch flake. Come to think of it none of my fish ever touch flake food. Pellets are much better IMO.

thanks, besides being hard to feed them flakes i had a feeling that they would be nutrient deficiant, he is eating live guppies now, but has already learned that the net = food, until i can get some feeding tongs, the net will have to do. thanks for all the in put
