Lionfish Feeding Questions

So I have been trying to get my fuzzy dwarf to eat frozen food. I have had it for two weeks and it doesn't eat from a feeding stick yet, but it will eat jumbo mysis shrimp when dispersed throughout the tank. Is this ok to continue? I have subscribed to Namxas and Seahorsedreams on YouTube and all their lions and scorps eat from a feeding stick. Is their something I'm doing wrong? Is their a certain way to move/wiggle the food to entice the lion?

Thanks

Get some heavy gauge transparent fishing line and attach it to your feeding stick. Spear the food through the fishing line and wiggle it in front of the lion. I've had amazing success with this method, weening 3 separate lions onto frozen in either the first or second attempt.

Hey :) You're doing nothing wrong! :) Keep good spirits, I've worked with many fresh shipped lions and the trick is to NEVER give up! :) Lots of love and a VARIETY of prepared foods usually will give you some luck ;) If all else fails the little ghost shrimp will them them just full enough to continue to work with them until you can ween them :) Best of luck my friend and keep us posted on how it turns out! :)

This ^^^

50lb line onto the feeding stick and then wiggle the mysis like its a shrimp moving along the rock or sand.

That's what I'm doing but with no success

He FINALLY ate from the feeding stick!!! I had been wiggling the shrimp along the bottom and the rocks for so long without him being interested, but yesterday he ate a jumbo mysis shrimp from the water column, so I decided to wiggle the shrimp in the water column where he picks the shrimp out of and sure enough, with a little patience he took three shrimp from the stick!!!!

You know you have a problem when you give praise in a baby talk voice like you would a puppy learning its first trick to your lion when he eats his first meal from the stick lol !!!!!

Something has just clicked with him. He is now eating chunks of silversides which he never paid any attention too before!!! I don't want to overfeed him but his belly looked a little pinched from just eating live ghost shrimp. But I can see a bulge in his stomach so I have ceased feeding and will resume on Monday.

Feed them about three times a week. Feed small pieces till he won't eat anymore, generally 5 or so eye sized pieces. Feed till the belly starts to bulge a bit and you are good.

Patience on the weaning process. Live to frozen can take time. If it wants to eat from the water column I wouldn't worry about that as long as you don't just throw a bunch in and let it foul the wat.

HE IS EATING FROZEN FROM THE STICK LIKE A PRO!!!!!!! HE IS NOW FOLLOWING THE FEEDING STICK WHEN IT'S OUTSIDE THE TANK!!!!!!!

HERE ARE A FEW PICS

I went to Market Basket yesterday to pick up some fresh seafood to eat. I got squid, (just the mantles) salmon, and red perch. He loves all of it except the squid. I will try the squid again because I think I fed too large a piece for him to swallow. I also have silversides.

Is there any other food that would be good?

Thanks

Salmon is a good one, buy oily. Just give a good variety of what you have and you should be good. All of one thing isnt the best.
