i got a volitan lion and i cant get it to eat anything besides live fish or silversides is there anyway i can get him to take shrimp or scallops? another question is can i put any Trigger fish with it?

When you want your lion to try something different, you can try this. Make sure he's a little hungry, and will have himself worked up into a kind of feeding frenzy. Give him one silverside, maybe cut into a smaller portion than usual. Then, try giving a piece of something new you want him to try. "If" he takes it, then for the third piece of food, go back and give him another piece of silverside. Watch the portion sizes so you're not overfeeding though. Patience and persistance. Eventually he may learn to eat just about anything you give him. At least that worked with mine. As far as adding a trigger? I've read that sometimes they may nip at the fins of a lion. Maybe someone else will jump in and help or give you more ideas.

Most people will agree that mixing lionfish and triggers isn't a good thing. As with most things cases, there are exceptions, but the majority of times it ends with the lionfish being killed by the trigger. There are lots of other semi-aggressive/aggressive fish that go well with lionfish though.

to teach my radiata lion to eat shirimp, I use a fish line with small knot on one side, them I push the line thru the small piece (which should fit without problem in lion´s mouth) until it reaches the knot. Them just present to lion with some movement (not agressive) when the fish gabs the piece, just pull a lightly to release the line...
It does work with several volitans , antennatas and my pride 3 inch radiata

Good luck with yours
