Liopropoma species

Hi all,

Been a long tome lurker on here but I think this is one of my first posts!

I picked up the below last week - which I believe is Liopropoma africanum. Is that correct?

It was being sold simply as "hogfish" as the wholesalers weren't able to identify it. It was a dull colour in the shop but quickly coloured up in my reef tank. I picked it up for an absolute steal if it's L. africanum too!

A few days before I picked up another unidentified species which I now believe is Liopropoma mitratum. This one is much more secretive so it's difficult to get a shot of.

They seem to get along fine - they don't chase each other but display gills and open mouths often.

Is it possible to add more Liopropoma species? And does anyone have experience doing so?!

Thanks!

Beautiful fish! Hard to say what it is. The pictures of L. africanum I've seen show a white stripes on an salmon background. The stripes on yours seem bright pink. But if not africanum, what could it be? Can you get a better picture? The blue light might be making white look pink.

I love Liopropomas. How big is the tank? Generally they won't really love each other unless they have a lot of room to hide from each other. I sent the pic to someone who will most likely be able to ID it but if you can get more pics it may be helpful.

Beautiful, I love Liopropoma species also but I never kept more than one together. If it's in a large enough tank, knowing their temperament I don't think it would be a problem.

I'll try for some more shots when I get a chance but this is a shot from the LFS where I nabbed it. It only cost £60 which I was pretty pleased with!

The tank is 500L - the two existing Liopropoma don't pay each other any attention now but fully aware adding another to the mix could be problematic. I think I'll still try :)

Weirdly the L. africanum sleeps with my yellow brotulid every night!

Thanks for the confirmed ID too.

Also, the L. africanum and L. mitratum came from the same wholesalers at the same time so think the africanum snuck in unnoticed amongst a more common species. Lucky me!

Here's a better picture from the LFS when they first got it:
