edit: It says use in lines carrying portable water hot and cold, for one of the uses.

I know that Teflon is safe for humans, But i also know that it can kill Parrots. I have used the spray Teflon on a stainless screw for a RO reservoir that fed into the tank. my guess is that it should be fine.

I've used it in the lab when I've run out of tape and been desperate seal some fittings. It has not been a problem with larval fish, it's just a little messy to work worth ;)

Yeah.. the whole teflon coated pan thing is at the base of the "teflon kills" movement and a line of lawyers looking to cash in. Is it true? There are lots of good arguements on both sides.

As for the teflon paste and your tank: It should be safe, but check the label for other compounds. Some of the pastes have a lot of other stuff in them.

The whole thing with parrots has to do with the teflon being heated. At high heats on top of a stove it does indeed give off fumes that are harmful to birds, not something we need to worry about at tank temperatures ;)

I heard about it a year or so ago and spent hours reading on the subject. It was kind of sad how many people indicated that they lost a bird due to an overheated pan!

its not pure teflon, just enriched, i would say that that is similar to regular pipe dope which turns plastic brittle over time you want to stick with teflon tape which is plastic safe
